CADDO LAKE WORKSHOP - 2026 DATES

OCTOBER 30 TO NOVEMBER 3 with Rob Strain

NOVEMBER 3-NOVEMBER 7 with Tim Wier

NOVEMBER 7-NOVEMBER 11 with Tim Wier

Caddo Lake Photo Workshop - Mood of the Swamp - Our Sixth Year on the Lake

As featured in Photographers Trail Notes

CADDO LAKE AND THE SURROUNDING SWAMP AREA WILL BE ONE OF YOUR MOST PRODUCTIVE PHOTOGRAPHY LOCATIONS. EVER!! WE HAVE CLIENTS WHO HAVE RETURNED FOR SECOND AND THIRD YEARS. AFTER READING THIS PAGE, CLICK ON THE LINK BELOW FOR MORE DETAILS.

Join Rob or Tim at Caddo Lake where you will add some fantastic images to your portfolio. But you will also experience....

  • Peace and solitude on the water
  • You will have more fun than your favorite Disney ride as we take a swamp boat to remote locations.
  • Some unexpected entertainment
  • Camaraderie
  • Luxury accommodations on the Big Cypress Bayou. No early morning drives from Shreveport or Marshall.
  • Down home soul food and some fancy meals as well.
  • Instruction on the unique settings for swamp photography and shooting wildlife photography from a boat.
  • You are sure to get some of your favorite captures ever!

Our task is to make sure you have the most successful, fun trip with great photography results. Our job is to get you to productive locations at the right time. Part of that is by using our boat captains who have lived on the lake most of their lives. We will also get you to some of our most productive locations in your personal kayak...don't worry, it is easy.

Here are some other things to expect:

We will work on improving your style so it is gallery level. Okay, if it's already there, we will use it as an example for other participants.

We will pay particular attention to creating depth to your images.

We will demonstrate post processing techniques that are especially useful for swamp photography.

We will review some of your favorite captures to make sure you are successful. If your images are out of focus, we will fix the problem on the first day, not the last day! Many of the techniques you will use are different from landscape photography.

This workshop offers more bang for your buck and likely more fun than any other workshop at Caddo Lake.

To discover more about what to expect, be sure to look at some of the images below.

WARM SUNRISES & SUNSETS

Caddo Lake Sunset

Overcast skies may present us with nice soft colors. But we will also search out sunrises and sunsets, especially when out on the boat trips. We will find many more intimate scenes along the bayou and tucked away sloughs. You will love stalking and photographing the abundant wildlife at Caddo Lake.

The workshops include four nights lodging, all meals, four morning sessions and four afternoon sessions. Select the date that works best for you!

YOU WON'T STOP SEEING THINGS! THE SWAMP WILL LOOK BACK AT YOU! WE MAKE OUR CLIENTS HAPPY!

Explore remote areas that can't be reached quickly in pontoon boats.

Be a stealth wildlife photographer as we kayak to quiet waters.

It's not just the photography that will keep a smile on your face. We have happy groups and and entertaining and captains with lots of local knowledge.

Put together your own group or join like minded photographers of all levels of expertise.

When fog hits the swamp, there are images to capture everywhere!

Like the Golden Pond of book and movie fame, Caddo Lake has been featured in many books (mostly scary) and movies.

Narrow passages are found throughout the margins of Caddo Lake.

Expect glorious sunrises and sunsets at Caddo Lake.

Egrets and herons are just a couple of the many wildlife species you will experience and photograph.

Without colored leaves, there are still fantastic compositions as the barren trees seemingly interact with one another.

Backlit Spanish moss and orange bald cypress leaves on one of the ponds we visit.

Sit quietly along the bayou and capture the autumn mood of the swamp,

Pileated woodpeckers, flickers and kingfishers are a few of the medium sized birds you might capture.

Some locations will feel like they were intentionally planted to present a garden of colors for us to investigate.

Wildlife is abundant, but you are unlikely to see any gators at this time of year. We will cover photography and post processing techniques to get the most out of your wildlife images.

Your eye will get tuned into the denizens of the swamp where you can capture their many poses.

Are you dreaming? No, this is real!

We will cover how to find compositions that create stories like these flame throwers.

You will learn much of the history of the Caddo Lake area, including about Dick and Charlie's Tea Room. The history alone makes this a very interesting and worthwhile trip.

We will get to remote locations few others can access. There you will discover original compositions and maybe catch sight of Bigfoot!

Finding "animated" compositions will be part of our goal.

An amazing red sunrise serves as a backdrop to this bald cypress silhouette.

Water lilies are fun to search for and photograph with the swamp in the background.

Sun breaks through the tree trunks and fog over the swamp.

Spanish moss sways in the breezed, providing an ever changing action scene.

Millpond

A whitewashed ghost tree stands against the colorful forest.
