NAVAJO SKY

The Galactic Center of the Milky Way is visible from around early April to late September in the Northern Hemisphere. As we photographers say goodbye until next season, we will be thinking about what creative ways we can bring it to life next year. This image was taken in the early morning hours at Monument Valley. I don't have an image of the Three Sisters that I liked during daylight hours, so was happy to add this to my portfolio earlier this summer

Josef Muench was the first photographer to record much of Monument Valley, including the Three Sisters. He said that the two larger sisters were protectin gthe smaller sister prior to entering the cathedral This is different from and less interesting than the true Navajo story that can be found in the Three Sisters Story.

"Man’s law changes with his understanding of man. Only the laws of the spirit remain always the same. When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice." Navajo saying

THE DARK SIDE OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Grand Canyon in the Dark

There are likely some sounds you really hate. The dental drill, for example. Our dog absolutely hates thunder. That's the only time she chooses to sit next to me instead of Momma. I hate the preset ring tone for the alarm on my iPhone. In fact, I have changed that selection from “Radar” to “Bulletin.” I fully expect to start hating “Bulletin” as waking up in the middle of dark just to have an outside opportunity to capture exceptional light becomes less and less fun after multiple unsuccessful wake up calls.   READ THE ARTICLE...

SEEING SPOTS?

There are lots of tasks to complete before posting or printing an image. Making sure they are free of distracting dust spots and other blemishes is on that list. Seeing spots on your photos, especially after they are printed is not fun! It is especially not fun if you discover a spot just as you are hanging a piece in a gallery or delivering a “finished” print to a client. This article covers the common spot issues and what to do about them.  READ MORE...
