Photoboomers Newsletter

Hi Everyone!

The time normally put into writing newsletters has been replaced with writing photography guides. After completing the Joshua Tree Guide earlier in the year, I have published the Lightning Photography Guide and the Arizona Slot Canyon Guides. The information in these guides will be applied on my photo at the end of the month. These guides and many others are sold by Photographers Trail Guides.

Last year I completed Every Photographer's Guide to the Grand Canyon's North Rim. Sales were outstanding early this year as many travelers anticipated trips this summer. The Dragon Bravo and White Stag fires have been devastating to both the forest and employees in that area. Any profits from further sales through summer will go to The Grand Canyon Recovery Relief Fund. Another group that can use our support is the Jacob Lake Inn owners and staff. I have dined and eaten cookies at the restaurant many times. They have a Go Fund Me page. Please consider joining me in helping these groups out.

ISSUE 39 - August 2025

IN THIS ISSUE:

  • New E-books
  • Featured Print
  • Phototrips & Workshops
  • Recent Travel
  • Upcoming Travel

The Arizona Slot Canyon Photography Guide is designed for all photographers, even those with a smartphone. You will enjoy seeing the sample images, but you will also learn how to achieve excellent results on your own using techniques that can be used in a crowded, dimly lit slot canyon without a tripod.

The Lightning Photography Guide helps you find and photograph lightning safely. Know all your settings, helpful apps and necessary gear. Indispensable if you get excited by storms!

FEATURED PRINT

CHOLLA LIGHT

This issue's feature print is from Joshua Tree National Park. This image was taken at one of many featured locations in my Joshua Tree National Park Photography Guide.

I was surprised on this beautiful morning to see no other serious photographers, but there were several families who had traveled here to sit in lawn chairs or on RV rooftops to view this glorious sunrise. They picked a good day!

You can enjoy this or other numerous photography prints in your home. All you have to do is contact me and we will make it happen.

SWAMP WORKSHOP SIGNUPS ARE OPEN

My Grand Canyon Monsoon photo trip starting at the end of this month is full as is the trip to Grand Tetons-Yellowstone at the end of September. There are still openings for Caddo Lake.

If you happened to catch the movie, Caddo Lake, you saw how truly beautiful and sometimes eerie this hidden gem can be. This will be my fourth year on the lake with our boat captain. This year, we are headquartered in a modern, tastefully designed house on the bayou that should appeal to all the photographers, but especially those who like a little luxury mixed in with the bald cypress woods. Be sure to read testimonials and see results achieved by previous participants.

FUTURE WORKSHOPS

All workshops are custom designed for small groups of photographers, usually three or four, but a maximum of six. These workshops are planned around our mutual timing, not just my timing. Because I don't advertise, you save. Because you are with friends, there is more good natured fun! Just the days you want and a very reasonable cost! Request your preferred times early. Offerings are limited each year.

RECENT TRAVEL

We had some time with our kids up in Washington, both on the San Juan Islands and inland at Leavenworth. These were not photography outings other than some family pix. Barbara and I also went up the California Coast. If you get a chance to visit Lotus Land in Montecito, do so with a camera. Go in early summer to see a whole pond full of lotus blossoms.

UPCOMING TRAVEL

One of the wonderful things about retirement (from dentistry) is that plans can be changed quickly. We will be in Oceanside and San Diego for most of the balance of August. This is a good time to not be in the California desert. We will be in Cabo mid-September, then there are the photography trips mentioned earlier.

WHERE TO SEE MY ART

The majority of my work is on my website, but it can also be seen at several outside locations. If you are looking for something you don't see, send me a note.

My juried work can be seen at  Desert Art Center in Palm Springs at Artists Council in Palm Desert. The galleries are closed until September.
