I offer several levels of service:
These are either workshops that I have organized in advance or are customized for a group you have put together. In either instance, the workshop involves considerable knowledge about the location and the art and skill of photography. In addition to organizing the workshop, most of my time is spent guiding and teaching. Because I value my time in other activities, I limit my workshops to just a few per year. These workshops are suitable for all levels of experience in photography. A lot of "bang for your buck" is promised!

These trips are organized for a small group of photographer friends, and sometimes their friends, who have already possess advanced skills in photography and post processing. Sometimes we may be learning from each other, but the main goals are experience, camaraderie and portfolio building. Expenses including transportation are shared. As organizer, I may have a portion of my expenses covered, but these trips do not generate profits for me. As such, the costs are fairly low. But they do not compete for clients with workshop companies.
These are for groups of one to five persons. You aren't limited to the times offered by other workshops. Instruction will be scheduled around your needs and will feature locations that I have shot multiple times. You put together the group so you will have friends you are used to being with. You can expect savings since I will not have to advertise to put together the workshop. This can include an amount of hiking to locations that large groups cannot offer.
This is absolutely the fastest way to learn. Add lessons and post processing to the guide service and you have a workshop, with more intense learning; $600 for first day for one; $700 for two; $900 for three; $1000 for four. Half price for each additional day. Meals and fees are not included. Lodging, meals and travel over 100 miles and any necessary permits or passes are extra. Water and snacks are provided. We will discuss this. Non-photographers are welcome at no extra charge as space allows. There are many locations to choose from. You can also follow links to sample images. I will edit and print one of your top images for you if you wish. We will discuss travel and shooting requirements with you before giving you a final fee estimate.
Consider locations such as White Sands NP, Bisti Wilderness, Joshua Tree NP, Death Valley NP, White Pocket and Coyote Buttes, Yellowstone NP, Pacific NW, California Redwoods, Hanksville area, Sedona & Watson Lake, etc. On occasion I will hire a separate guide service during all or part of the session.
Availability is subject to my schedule. Contact me with your request.
"A special thanks to Rob for so freely sharing his local knowledge, secret spots, and knowledge. I was pretty intimidated at the thought of trying to capture the park, you made it 'easy'. Now I’m looking forward to being able to have some images of such a special place on my wall for years to come. Thank you." S Cody
"Rob Strain is a very experienced photographer who is a good communicator, great outdoorsman, knows his way around Northern AZ and Utah. He knows where and how to shoot excellent photos! He helped our group get some wonderful images I'll cherish for years to come!" L Enright
"I was lucky enough to cross-paths with Rob Strain. He went out of his way to educate and mentor me. We spent over 6 hours on a location, two separate days getting a one-of-a-kind, shot, that nobody has. Authentic imagery and capturing it as best as anyone possibly can is of utmost importance. He brings out the best in and makes mother nature shine." L Zwak
"WOW! I love these! You have an amazing talent and we are so thankful..." T Dietrich (parent of Arizona Wildflowers bluegrass musicians)
"This was a wonderful experience. I learned a ton and I'm grateful to have had such a wonderful, collaborative group to learn alongside." E Ahlfinger
